We can’t win them all. Montgomery County’s National Premier Soccer League team, Regals FC, found themselves in a battle on Sunday, and suffered a rare Sunday League loss to Aldine Irapto, 0-1.
Playing the third match in four days, Regals FC head coach Miguel Landaverde, and a few starters, were called into service to face a motivated Irapto side. Landaverde played as a center midfielder, joined by defender Robert Hernandez, midfielders Cesar Silva and Jose Sibrian, worked with the younger players to produce a solid performance.
Irapto got on to the scoreboard in the first half when a Regals FC defender lost his footing and got beat to the outside by the Irapto striker and scored with a nice drop shot over the Regals FC goalkeeper Joel Recino.

SHENANDOAH — Montgomery County’s new National Premier Soccer League team, Regals FC, knocked off the Texas Lonestrikers 1-0 Saturday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium in a game that was halted 12 minutes into the second half because of lightning and heavy winds in the area.
“The team played well,” Regals FC General Manager Stephen Heisler said. “We had a couple of good opportunites. It was hard with them having so many guys behind the ball like that.”
Regals FC, playing its first match at its new home stadium, got its lone goal 31 minutes into the first half on strong shot by Edgar Rodriguez. The Lonestrikers, whose team included Ryan Dempsey, brother of U.S. National Team member Clint Dempsey, had a few opportunites in the first half but had close-range shots go over the goal.
